world.Skills and ExpertiseSkills
- Strong project management experience in overseeing, developing,
and managing the full life cycle of project plans.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, leveraging
strong coordination and collaboration skills.
- Coaching and/or managing staff, with evidence to support
success.
- Willingness to learn, give, seek and implement feedback.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the
ability to define impact and share complex information in ways the
public and policy community can use.
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and pursuing
it within the mission of FAS.
- Track record of cultivating, developing, and managing
grants/fundraising.
- Ability to mentor and further the development of younger staff
on the Global Risk team.Expertise
- 5+ years experience working in public policy, with particular
interest in government experience (executive, legislative), or work
in public policy think tanks or academia.
- A demonstrated area of expertise in the global risk portfolio,
including artificial intelligence, biological and/or nuclear
weapons, global diplomacy, national security, cybersecurity, lethal
autonomous weapons, space policy and planetary defense, and
national security-related science and engineering.
- Direct work experience, reputation, networks, and substantive
expertise in key issues are essential to succeeding in this role.To
Sum It Up---The Federation of American Scientists is looking for an
Associate Director, Global Risk to join its Global Risk team
supporting the global risk portfolio, including issues related to
the intersection between artificial intelligence and nuclear
weapons, biological sciences, and military autonomy. You will
report directly to the Program Director and work in close
collaboration with the FAS Nuclear Information Project. This role
would add leadership to the Global Risk team and support the work
of the team in reaching its goals.You will possess a commitment to
impact public policy, a proven field of expertise, and stellar
people and project management skills. You will have the
interpersonal skills needed to work constructively across FAS teams
when needed and with external partners to be an outstanding
representative of FAS and the Global Risk team. You will also be
directly responsible for managing and coaching the Global Risk
Project Associate to success, supporting their growth and
development along with advancing FAS' organizational goals and
priorities.This position will be a hybrid role, meaning that both
remote and in-person work can be accommodated, generally two to
three days per week on-site, and two to three days per week remote.
For this role, much of the work will be relationship building and
meeting with federal government officials within Washington,
